Differentiation is the process of finding the derivative of a function — the instantaneous rate of change with respect to its variable. Two fundamental approaches, explicit and implicit differentiation, differ in how the relationship between variables is expressed.
When y is defined implicitly through an equation in both x and y, differentiate both sides with respect to x, treating y as a function of x.
Key step: whenever you differentiate a y term, multiply by dy/dx (chain rule). Then isolate dy/dx.
Find dy/dx for the equation x² + y² = 25.
Differentiating both sides: 2x + 2y(dy/dx) = 0 → dy/dx = −x/y
You don't have a clean workflow. You're switching tabs, running late, and re-reading the same paragraph four times. Folio meets you there.
Connect your Canvas account once. Every PDF, lecture slide, and assignment auto-syncs to your Mac. You never drag a file or copy a URL — it's just there when you open the app.
The AI isn't just reading the PDF — it knows which class it's from, what's on the syllabus, and when your quiz is. Ask "will this be on the test?" and it can actually answer.
Folio works with any Canvas instance — community colleges, state schools, wherever your school runs Canvas. Search for it, sign in once, and you're done.
I used to screenshot pages of my textbook and paste them into ChatGPT one at a time. This is so much better. I open the PDF and ask — it already knows the whole chapter.
